Proposed state bill would benefit brewers via self-distribution

By Christopher Harris Commonwealth Journal Feb 6, 2021 Feb 6, 2021 Daniel Stroud (left) and Del Stephens (right) opened Jarfly Brewing Co. in 2016. Even before that, efforts had started to allow microbreweries like Jarfly to self-distribute their own products. Stroud supports a bill currently making its way through Frankfort that would do just that. File Kentucky’s microbreweries — like Jarfly Brewing Co. here in Somerset – are raising a toast to 2021’s Senate Bill 15. The glass is only half-full though, as the legislation has yet to pass.  The bipartisan bill making its way through the state legislature would allow a microbrewer to sell and deliver up to 2,500 barrels of product to any retail licensee and to require a microbrewer to report self-distribution to the distributor.

Pendleton brewery sues Anheuser-Busch over national ad campaign

PORTLAND — A football commercial aired during an NFL game has led to a lawsuit pitting a Pendleton brewer against one of the largest beverage companies in the country. Suzie’s Brewery Co. filed a lawsuit on Feb. 2 against Anheuser-Busch in U.S. District Court in Portland, alleging that the company’s advertising campaign for a new hard seltzer product was misleading and harmed its own product, Suzie’s Organic Hard Seltzer. “Using the bully-pulpit its massive national advertising budget allows, Anheuser-Busch has premiered a new false and misleading advertising campaign aimed at convincing health-conscious drinkers that its new organic hard seltzer is a unique, one-of-a-kind product,” Suzie’s Brewery’s complaint states. “To be clear, it is not.”

Jim Beam Highball: A refreshing drink for WFH inspiration

This post is sponsored by Beam Suntory. The pandemic has changed the way that many people purchase and consume alcohol. Instead of drinking outside at clubs or bars, more consumers are now drinking at home with their friends and family – often to de-stress after a long day working from home (WFH). The chance to relax with co-workers and friends after office hours has vanished because of WFH routines, but people still want to unwind after work. Jim Beam has stayed ahead of this trend with the Jim Beam Highball. An easy-to-make drink, its crisp and zesty taste makes it ideal for a relaxing way to finish the end of the day. Consumers can enjoy it without overindulging, as it is light enough for someone to have a fun night, but still be bright-eyed and ready for work the next day.
